Holiday 'Round the Towns

Lanesboro. The Lanesboro Lions and Santa helped the needy. Santa and his helpers - the Lanesboro Lions - served a hearty breakfast to the Lanesboro community on Saturday, December 2. Approximately $400 was raised for the Fillmore County Food Shelf.

Lanesboro. The Elstad Lutheran Church choir went charoling in Lanesboro on Friday night, December 8. The choir visited the manors and performed at several locations throughout the town. The choir was escorted around the city by horse and buggy by Duane Sveen and his Belgian horses.

Preston and Harmony. The Lions Clubs of Preston and Harmony were also in the Christmas spirit on December 2, hosting “Breakfast with Santa” for the Fillmore Central Early Childhood and Family Education program. In Harmony, the Harmony Area Promotions Association assisted the Lions with the festivities.


Houston. Ace Communica-tions Group and Midwest Wireless are collecting toys and funds for “Christmas in Fillmore County” and “Houston County Care and Share.” As of December 1, Ace received over 150 toys and $650. The promotion continues through the end of December.


Chatfield. A special holiday concert, “Songs of the Season” is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, in Chatfield. The performance will be held at Val-A-Lodge, located at the intersection of Highways 52 and 30. “Songs of the Season” is open to the public free of charge. For those unable to attend, an encore presentation will air Friday, December 22, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on KFIL FM 103.1. The broadcast is sponsored by Root River State Bank of Chatfield and the First State Bank of Fountain.

Preston. A complimentary Christmas dinner will be served on Monday, December 25 at St. Columban’s Church dining room, beginning at 12:00 noon. Anyone in the area who is alone or away from their family is welcome. Carryouts are available and can be delivered. Reservations are encouraged. Mabel. The St. Olaf Youth Group is conducting their Mabel Food Drive on Saturday, December 16 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Residents should place all non-perishable food items in a plastic bag and place outside their door. All items will be donated to the local food shelf.

Wykoff. “Candy Cane Lane” will be presented by the children of the Fillmore Free Methodist Church on Saturday, December 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kingsland Middle School in Wykoff. About 40 children are participating in this delightful musical drama.
