Dorris Balcome Finley Serfling, age 100, of Spring Valley, died Tuesday afternoon, November 28, 2000, at the Spring Valley Care Center.

Dorris Balcome was born April 2, 1900, in Jordan Township, Fillmore County, the daughter of Frank L. and Catherine (McRae) Balcome. She attended country schools in Fillmore County. She married Louie Finley on May 15, 1916, in Preston. They were later divorced. She then married Herman Serfling in May 1946 in Spring Valley. Herman died in May 1963. She lived near her daughter’s home in Spring Valley for the next 33 years. She became a resident of the Care Center in 1995. She was a former member of the Granger United Methodist and the Frankford BI Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Capitola Losey of Spring Valley and two sons, John Finley of Elba, MN, and Louie (Kay) Finley of Ostrander. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, 14 step great grandchildren, 33 great great grandchildren, four step great great grandchildren, many Serfling grandchildren and two sisters, Evy Bell of Stewartville and Mary Maronie of Chatfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one son, two daughters, four brothers, six sisters, two grandsons, and two granddaughters.

The funeral for Mrs. Serfling was held Saturday, December 2, 2000, at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. James Ross officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
