Robert Betz, 83, of Rushford, died Friday, December 29, 2000, at his home in Rushford.

He was born in August 1917 in Rushford, where he grew up and graduated from Rushford High School. He served in the Army Air Corps in Africa during World War II. He was employed at the former Rush Products/Lake Center Industries until his retirement in 1987. He married Verna James in Rushford on April 17, 1939. He was a member of the Rushford Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, both as a member and as an officer. He was an active member of the Ferndale Country Club and served several years on the board of directors. He was a past member of the Rushford School Board and served as chairman of the board. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion in Rushford. He was a former member of the Rushford Lions Club, where he also served as president.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Roberta (Harley) Johnson of Austin, Carol (Robert) Tweten of Byron, and Sybil (Cleve) Williams of Monterey, CA; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister.

The funeral for Mr.. Betz was held Tuesday, January 2, 2001, at the Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial was in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery. Hoff Funeral Home-Cook Chapel in Rushford was in charge of arragements.
