Erna Boelter

Erna Martha Boelter, 105, of Preston, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center in Preston.

Erna M. Friemann was born November 9, 1895 in Spring Valley the daughter of Otto Fredrick and Augusta (Nass) Friemann. Erna attended rural school in the Spring Valley area and lived there until her marriage to Frank Boelter, February 4, 1920. The couple farmed in the Preston area until her husbandís death in 1936 when Erna and children moved to Preston. Over the years, Erna provided a home to numerous foster children. In 1962, she moved to Rochester where she worked for several years at Bachís Music Store, the State Hospital, and then in the Foster Grandparent Program for six years. At age 99 Erna suffered a stroke and became a resident of Good Samaritan Center in Preston. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Rochester.

Survivors include two sons, Duane (Roberta) of Fairfield Bay, AR; John of Rochester; one daughter, Elaine Rogers of Staples, MN; one sister, Alice Solie of Faribault; and one brother William Friemann of St. Paul. Erna also raised two nieces after their mothers death and they also survive, Mildred (Richard) Wiederander of Eureka, SD.; and Virginia (Tony) Bernabeu of Brooklyn Center, MN; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Harland; three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services for Erna Martha Boelter were held on Saturday, January 6, 2001 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Sherman Coltvet officiating. Spring burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Preston. Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.
