Luellen VanGundy, 95, of Houston, a longtime area farm homemaker, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston.

Luellen E. Olson was born April 27, 1905, in Ostrander and grew up in the Ostrander and Grand Meadow areas. On September 6, 1923, she married Carl VanGundy and they moved to Houston. They farmed in the area for many years and moved into town after their retirement in 1956. Mrs. VanGundy cooked at a number of Houston restaurants and volunteered at Valley View Nursing Home. She was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, its’ circle and ladies aid, and Iris Garden Club and American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include eight sons, Harold (Dolores), Donald (LaVon), Francis (Shirley), Junior (Donna) and Larry (Patty), all of Houston, Wesley (Dorothy) of Cedar Falls, IA, Robert (Laurel) of St. Paul and Allen (Loretta) of Hokah; two daughters, Lois Quillin of La Crescent, and Judy (Steve Mrachek) Ledebuhr of Winona; 29 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Selma) Olson of Togo, MN, and Willis (Thelma) Olson of Apache Junction, AZ; and two sisters, Edith (Wayne) Guy of Ostrander and Arletta Jurasinski of Mountain View, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, two grandsons, six brothers and three sisters.

The funeral for Mrs. VanGundy was held Friday, February 2, 2001, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, with the Revs. Lane Zaffke and Louise Stromberg co-officiating. Burial was in Money Creek Cemetery. Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
