Robert Olson, 78, formerly of Spring Valley, died Tuesday, January 16, 2001, in Minneapolis.

He was born May 5, 1922, in Grand Rapids, MN, and grew up and attended school in the Ostrander and Spring Valley area. He was in the U.S. Navy for six years, serving as a medic in the South Pacific during World War II. On August 12, 1948, he married Juanita "Mickey" Clark. They were later divorced. After the war, he and his parents operated the Spring Valley Chick Hatchery. Mr. Olson built and operated the Parkview Motel in Spring Valley, and later worked for Donaldson's department store in the Twin Cities.

Survivors include a son, James (Mary Jo) of St. Paul; and a sister, Jean Malizia of Loveland, CO.

A memorial service for Mr. Olson was held January 19 in Minneapolis.
