Doris Lucille Serfling Henry

Doris Lucille Serfling Henry, 85, a former Harmony resident, died January 13, 2001, at the St. Croix Valley Memorial Hospital.

Doris was born in Harmony, on August 30, 1915, to Herman and Clara Serfling. Doris and her twin brother, Donald, attended school at the Daisy Valley School in rural Harmony where her aunt was the teacher. Then she worked as domestic help in the Preston area for several years. She married Roy Henry on October 19, 1938, in Preston. She was introduced to Roy by her friend Hazel, (who would marry Roys brother Milo) while the women were playing softball. Roy and Doris lived in the Minneapolis area where their three children where born. In 1948, they moved to Rock Creek, MN, where Roy was a self-employed blacksmith. During the Korean War, Doris worked at the Arsenal in New Brighton, MN. After Roys death in 1971, she started doing child care in Pine City, MN. In 1986, she moved to the Shady Knoll Residence in Grantsburg, MN until 1991 when she joined her daughters family on a farm near Cushing, MN.

Survivors include two daughters, Pat Kasperson of Maple Grove, MN, Jan (Dave) Johnson of St. Croix Falls, MN; one son, Ron (Angie) Henry of Brooklyn Park, MN; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother Vernon Serfling of Harmony; a sister, Jewell Buss of Spring Valley; sisters-in-law, Alice Serfling, Lucille Serfling, Lottie Serfling, Marge Quenemoen, and Fern Henry. She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, Donald, Everett, Emmett, and John; three sisters, Clarise Laak, Eunice Dahl, and Hazel Gustafson, and grandson, Jason Henry.

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry were held Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at First Lutheran Church in Cushing, MN, with pastors Charles Arndt and Amy DeLong officiating.
