Maxine Delores Gunderson

Maxine Delores Gunderson 75, of Mabel, formerly of northeast Iowa, died February 14, 2001 at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

Maxine Delores Wright was born March 7, 1925, in rural Ossian, Iowa, grew up in northeast Iowa and graduated from Waukon High School in 1942. On May 30, 1943, she married Jerome Gunderson at First Lutheran Church in Decorah,
Iowa. She was a homemaker, helped with her husband's businesses, was a 4-H leader in Iowa and Minnesota, and held offices in a farm organization, a political party and an insurance agents' union. She taught Sunday school at Waterloo Ridge and Mabel First Lutheran churches and held offices in the women's groups of both churches.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Gary (Cheryl) of Canton, James (Sheree) and Tony (Myrna), both of Mabel, and Jerry Wayne (Sonya) of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Jean (Terry) Ingvalson of Mabel; 14 grandchildren; her mother, Lettie (Strand) Wright of Burr Oak, Iowa; two brothers, Vernon (Bayonne) Wright of Burr Oak and Calvin (Jeanne) Wright of Dorchester, Iowa; and a sister, Norma Hopperstad of Decorah. Her father preceded her in death.

A memorial service for Maxine Delores Gunderson was held February 17, 2001 at First Lutheran Church in Mabel, with the Revs. Gene and Allen Hermeier officiating. The body was cremated. Burial was in Mabel Lutheran Cemetery. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
