Alice Stutsman Hahn

Alice Stutsman Hahn, 96, of Harmony, a retired registered nurse, died February 12, 2001 at Harmony Healthcare Center.

Alice Elizabeth Mueller was born Dec. 23, 1904, in St. Louis. She was raised by her grandmother in Des Moines, and at the beginning of World War I, her name was changed to Miller. She was a 1922 graduate of East High School in Des Moines, graduated from Mercy Hospital in Denver in 1925 with a registered nursing degree and then worked at Des Moines General Hospital until 1938. On Oct. 23, 1926, she married Ralph N. Stutsman in Des Moines. During World War II, she taught first-aid classes and for many years, was active in a number of Des Moines charities. After Mr. Stutsman's death in 1961, she became a teaching assistant at Mercy Hospital's School of Nursing. From 1966 to 1968, she lived in Harmony and worked part time at Green Lea Manor in Mabel. On June 1, 1968, she married George E. Hahn of Jefferson, WI, where they made their home. Mrs. Hahn was active in her church in Jefferson and supported charitable causes. After Mr. Hahn's death in 1994 she returned to Harmony and in 1995, entered the nursing home.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula (Vernon) Michel of Harmony; a stepson, Wally (Sara) Hahn of Doyle, TN.; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. A sister also preceded her in death.

A memorial service for Alice Stutsman Hahn was held February 19, 2001 at Nativity Catholic Church in Harmony, with the Rev. Steven Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Des Moines, IA, at a later date. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony was in charge of arrangements.
