Norman "Vernon" Rasmussen

Norman "Vernon" Rasmussen, 77, of rural Mabel, a longtime area farmer, died February 20, 2001 at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

He was born July 10, 1923, in Winneshiek County, IA, to Jens and Stella (Rosendahl) Rasmussen. On Oct. 22, 1950, he married Lylas Gjetley in Newton, IA. They had farmed near Hesper since 1956. Mr. Rasmussen was a member of Hesper Lutheran Church. He enjoyed working on the farm.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sharon (Gary) Hanson of Spring Grove, Sheila (Tom) Norby of Canton and Carol (Gordon) Gaustad of Decorah, IA; three sons, Alan (Kris) of Decorah, and Dean and Craig (Joan), both of Mabel; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray (Grace) and Ervin (Arlene), both of Decorah; and two sisters, Mae (Norman) Brynsaas and Selma (Russell) Nelson, both of Decorah. He was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and two sisters.

The funeral for Mr. Rasmussen was held February 23, 2001at the Lutheran Church in Hesper, IA, with the Rev. Hans Floan officiating. Burial was in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
