Gilma J. Ekern, 83, of Rushford died February 20, 2001 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.

Gilma Jeanette Nordness was born October, 26, 1917 in Rushford, to Gilbert and Josephine (Daley) Nordness. On November 11, 1943 she married Charles Ekern in Highland Prairie. He died on October 28, 1986. Gilma was a life long homemaker in Rushford. She was a member of the Rushford Lutheran Church as well as its Ladies Aid and Helping Hand Club. Gilma took great joy in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be remembered for excellent cooking and baking.

Survivors include a daughter, Corrine (Carroll) Hill of Winona; two sons, Roger (Susan) Ekern of Rushford and Arland (Tami) Ekern of St. Michael, MN; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Arthur (Dorothy) Nordness of Bonanza, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Alice, and a brother, Elmer.

Funeral services were held February 24, 2001 at the Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial was in Rushford Lutheran Cemetery. Hoff Funeral Homes-Cook Rushford Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
