Date Pudding Cobbler

1 cup flour
1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar, divided
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon cold butter or margarine
1/2 cup milk
3/4 cup chopped dates
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup water
Whipped cream and ground cinnamon, optional

In a bowl, combine flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar and baking powder. Cut in butter until crumbly. Gradually add the milk, dates and walnuts. In a saucepan, combine water and remaining brown sugar, bring to a boil. Remove from heat, add the date mixture and mix well. Transfer to a greased 8 in. sq. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. If desired, top each serving with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkling of cinnamon.

Until next week, Annabelle
