Valborg Haugen

Valborg Haugen, 94, of Rushford, a retired cook, died March 12, 2001 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. She had lived at Good Shepherd Lutheran Apartments the past six years.

Valborg Hanson was born May 30, 1906, in Rushford and was sent to an orphanage in Beloit, Iowa, after her mother's death. She graduated from Lutheran Normal School in Canton, S.D., and moved to Rushford when she was 17. On July 13, 1924, she married Walter Haugen, and they lived in the Rushford area most of their married lives. Her husband died in July 1977. Mrs. Haugen was head cook at Grassby Home Cafe, Niggle's Cafe and Johnny's Cafe until her retirement. She enjoyed embroidering and gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Wallace (Valaira) of Golden, Colo., and Roger (Esther) of Burlington, N.D.; a daughter, Margie (Arlyn) Brevig of Rushford; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, a grandson, four sisters and four brothers. The funeral for Valborg Haugen was held March 17, 2001 at Rushford Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hoff Funeral Homes-Cook Rushford Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
