Bennie Barber, 81, of Thief River Falls, Minn., died March 13, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, Thief River Falls.

Bennie Barber was born on May 17, 1919 in Pilot Mound Township, to Leora Barber. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith and attended Fillmore County, Country Schools. Bennie was in the United States Army for 3 1/2 years, serving in the South Pacific. He was a mechanic at Gunderson Garage in Fountain. He also worked at a factory in Chatfield where he retired. Bennie spent his time after work mowing yards and cemeteries for friends and neighbors. In 1996 he moved to Thief River Falls with his sister-in-law, Grace Littlefield. Bennie enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing the nickel machines at the casino. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Fountain.

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Grace Littlefield of Thief River Falls, Minn; and several relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, step-father, Clifford Bendickson; and one brother, Elmer Littlefield.

The funeral for Bennie Barber was held March 17, 2001 at Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thief River Falls, Minn, with the Rev. Marcia Sylvester officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Lutheran Cemetery, Fountain.
