To all Preston taxpayers, “Throughout the world there is a feeling of apprehension by thoughtful men and women...” This was the first sentence of an oratorical speech back in 1931. Today, the thoughtful men and women of Preston have a feeling of apprehension when they see what the state and federal highway proposes to change our town.

The taxes of the businesses and homes that will be eliminated amounts to $9198. The rest of homes and businesses would have to pay the $9198.

There are other ways to handle these matters. They will be brought to attention when there is a public meeting concerning the proposed change on the highway.

I want to express my thanks to the Journal for the article about the county commissioners meeting (“In the path of progress” published Monday, March 26th) in regard to my husband’s complaint on the Highway 52 project in Preston. It was well written and it made me and my husband feel a little better about it.

I hope that this project won’t have to come this far into the city and tear our home down, as well as many other homes. I hope something can be worked out so that we can keep our home as we have worked so hard to try and make it look nice around here. We have had many compliments that it looks so nice here.

My husband says that the stress is awful, but I say that it hurts deep down. I hope everyone will understand how we feel about all of this. My husband and I personally want to thank Morris Bjork for his help and support on this and lessening the burden for us. God bless you all.
