Merton McKay

Merton McKay, 79, of Byron, a retired truck driver and farmer, died March 16, 2001 at the Valleyview Nursing Home in Houston after a brief illness.

Born Oct. 18, 1921, in Harmony, the son of Clarence and Clara McKay, he grew up on the family farm and graduated from Harmony High School. On Sept. 6, 1947, he married Elaine E. Badger in Rochester. She died Nov. 12, 1997. The couple farmed near Harmony and Mr. McKay worked for Pederson Brothers Construction as a truck driver until 1974, when they moved to Byron. He worked for Bob Braaten Construction as a truck driver, retiring Dec. 6, 2000.

Survivors include his son, Milford (Vicki) of Houston; three grandchildren; and his brother C.A. (Betty) McKay Jr. A sister preceded him in death.

The funeral for Merton McKay was held March 27, 2001 at Byron United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bernard Lewellin officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Vine Funeral Home in Rochester was in charge of arrangements.
