Paul Block, 64, of Elma, died Friday, March 16, 2001 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse of natural causes.

Paul David Block was born January 31, 1937 at Waterloo, Iowa the son of John & Hannah (Renz) Block. He grew up on a farm near Saratoga and attended country school near his home and later school in Riceville. After his schooling he was united in marriage to Alvina Mecklenburg in Chester, Iowa on February 23, 1958. After their marriage the couple resided in Harmony, MN where he did custom harvesting until November of 1979, when they moved to Elma, where he was self-employed in the farm equipment business. He enjoyed reading, going to auction sales with his family and visiting with his friends at the sales.

He is survived by his wife Alvina of Elma, mother Hannah Block of Elma, 15 children-Dianna Block of LaCrosse, WI, Renita (Jack) Tesch of Backus, MN, Suzan (Gary) Strahl of Preston, MN, Andrew (Debra) Block of Orchard, IA, Daniel (Brenda) Block of Elma, Phyllis Barlow of Waterloo, IA, Marsha Loving of Waterloo, IA, Paul Block Jr. of Cedar Falls, IA, Bertha (Jeff) Young of Waterloo, IA, Carol (Steven) Meade of Platte City, MO, Edward Block and his fianc Cher of Waterloo, IA, Karl Block of Elma, Marie Block of Cresco, Marge Block and her fianc Darrin of Decorah, IA, Margaret Block of Elma, 24 grandchildren, 2 brothers-Dennis Block of Elma, Richard (Vickie) Block of Elma. He was preceded in death by his father John Block.

Funeral services were held on March 20, 2001 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Elma with Reverend Maurice Lind officiating.

Burial will be at a later date in the Chester Hill Cemetery with Jim Umburger, Terry Fay, Mike Suess, Robert Rickard, Robert Houdek, and Jeff Young serving as casket bearers.
