When some people think of the day after Thanksgiving, they think of relaxing on the couch to digest their turkey dinner. For others, the day after Thanksgiving is called "Black Friday." This is the day avid shoppers wake up in the early hours of the morning in order to buy Christmas gifts at discounted prices. Some may even chose not to sleep that night in order to get in line for the best deals.
Many people cannot even imagine why these crazy Black Friday shoppers would even consider standing in mile-long sized lines to buy an item. I am personally one of these crazy shoppers who began my Christmas shopping at midnight on Friday, November 25. I stood in ridiculously long lines to purchase items that could probably be bought another time. For me, though, Black Friday is more than getting the best deal on something; it is about the experience of being a part of the craziness!
Other people who participate in Black Friday are what you would call "hard core" shoppers! They are the people who get into fist fights over a pan at Wal-Mart. One lady was even reported to have camped outside of a Best Buy store for over a week so that she could purchase her items. Another elderly woman brought mace and sprayed a crowd of shoppers. In a news report, it was stated that many victims required medical attention.
Not only do the shoppers on Black Friday take extremes during one day, but the employees were upset about the recent change in opening times. Target employees began a strike because the store opened at midnight on Friday. Because of this early opening, employees argued that they were not able to spend enough time with their families on the Thanksgiving holiday.
After hearing all of these horror stories about Black Friday and the people who get hurt just to buy a simple Christmas gift, you have to ask yourself: Is it worth it? Of course it is! Not only can you finish all of your Christmas shopping in one day, but you can also witness many people doing some crazy things as they try to obtain their purchases. Not to mention, in most cases you meet some really nice people while you wait in line at each of the stores.
