Bernice Blagsvedt, 82, of Mabel died April 7, 2001 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

Bernice Samuelson was born April 29, 1918, in Winneshiek County, Iowa, near Decorah, to Lars and Karen (Frovik) Samuelson, who were immigrants from Norway. In 1937, she graduated from Decorah High School, and on Oct. 24, 1940, she married Julius Sjarpe. They farmed in Amherst Township in Fillmore County. Mr. Sjarpe died in 1964. She married Cyrus Blagsvedt, also a farmer near Amherst. He died March 23, 1993, and Mrs. Blagsvedt moved to Newburg, Minn., where she lived until recently becoming a resident of Green Lea Manor. She was a member of the Elstad Lutheran Church and its WELCA, of which she had been a past president.

Survivors include two sons, Norman (Beatrice) Sjarpe of Stewartville and Gary(Carol) Sjarpe of Lanesboro; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leif Samuelson of Decorah. An infant son also preceded her in death.

The funeral for Bernice Blagsvedt was held April 11, 2001 at Elstad Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro, with the Rev. Rod Nygren officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
