Burton C. Jacobson, 84, of Wykoff, a former farmer and retired Rochester Methodist Hospital employee, died Tuesday (April 24, 2001) at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born Jan. 3, 1917, in Havelock, Iowa, grew up there and worked for area farmers. On Feb. 3, 1940, he married Irene Zech in Pocahontas, Iowa. They farmed near Danbury, Iowa, for two years and then in the Havelock area until moving to rural Sargeant in 19. They had lived in the Wykoff area since 1954. In addition to farming, he worked at Bernard Implement in Chatfield and later at Rochester Methodist Hospital until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Jacobson was a member of the Wykoff United Methodist Church and a former member of the Wykoff Lions Club. He enjoyed traveling, wintering in Apache Junction, Ariz., and fixing things.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Gerald Sr. of Wykoff; four daughters, Linda Jacobson of Wykoff, Barbara Jacobson of Eagan, Minn., Kathleen (Curtis) Ruhser of Elkader, Iowa, and Charlene Czapiewski of Spring Valley; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

The funeral for Mr. Jacobson was held Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Wykoff United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bob Kandels officiating. Burial was in Wykoff Cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Wykoff was in charge of arrangements.
