Betsy Rachel Brekke, 62, of rural Preston, a homemaker, died April 26, 2001 at her home.

Betsy Rachel Erickson was born July 26, 1938, in Lanesboro and graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1957. She lived in rural Lanesboro until 1957 and then in Chatfield for a short time before moving to her current farm home 43 years ago. On Sept. 28, 1957, she married Eddie Brekke at Highland Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro. Mrs. Brekke clerked for a number of area business, most recently at Scenic Valley Winery in Lanesboro for three years. She was a member of Fountain Lutheran Church, WELCA, Sunshine Circle and Birthday Club.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Rhonda (John) Sveen of Fountain; a son, Edward (Cheryl) of Lanesboro; five grandchildren; her father, Donald Erickson of Lanesboro; and two brothers, Darrell (Elaine) Erickson of Rushford and Alton (Delaine) Erickson of Preston. Her mother preceded her in death.

The funeral for Betsy Rachel Brekke was held April 30, 2001 at Fountain Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Curtis Fox and Paul Nelson officiating. Burial was in Fountain Lutheran Cemetery. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Barbara J. Nolan of Chatfield and Cassandra (Joseph) Ponnett Jr. of Roseto, Penn.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Bertling of Friendship, Wis.; and one sister Phyllis Bertling of Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

The funeral for Marie Chowgan was April 23, 2001 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chatfield with the Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Burial was at St. Adalbert cemetery in Milwaukee. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.
