Walter Howe

Walter Howe, 92, of Highland Prairie and Stewartville, a retired electrician, died April 8, 2001 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Born May 6, 1909, in Highland Prairie, he attended Bridge Creek School and farmed at Bridge Creek until joining the Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater. On Aug. 23, 1944, he married Gladys Kopperud in Highland Prairie. They lived at their farm home in Highland Prairie and in Stewartville. Mr. Howe was an electrician for Norman's Electric for more than 30 years. A lifelong member of Highland Prairie Lutheran Church, he was an active volunteer and served on the church council. He was a 50-year member of the Rushford VFW and American Legion, and was active in the Senior Center. He enjoyed yard work, trips to Norway, and playing cards and pool.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kenneth (Elizabeth) of Stewartville; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alette Dahl of Rushford. A sister and five brothers preceded him in death.

The funeral for Walter Howe was held May 11, 2001 at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Rushford, with the Revs. Rod Nygren and Jules Erickson co-officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hoff Funeral Homes-Cook Rushford Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
