Gladys Almira Lea , 97, of Rushford, a lifelong resident of the Rushford-Peterson area, died May 13, 2001 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.

Gladys Almira Thorud was born Jan. 18, 1904, in Holt Township, Fillmore County. In 1921, she married Albert Lea, and he died in 1936. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Highland.

Survivors include a son, Glenn (Margaret) of Peterson; three daughters, Dolores (Herbert) Fowkes of Dayton, Ohio, LaVina Tikal of La Crescent and Phyllis (Donald) Abrahams of Bloomington, Minn.; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Norman Thorud of Rushford. A brother and four sisters preceded her in death.

The funeral for Gladys Almira Lea was held May 17, 2001 at First Lutheran Church of Highland, with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hoff Funeral Homes-Cook Rushford Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
