Gladys Judith Swain, 93, of Rushford, a homemaker, died March 7, 2001 at her home.

Gladys Judith Williams was born May 15, 1907, on the Humble farm at Highland Prairie, moved to North Dakota with her family when she was 3 months old and returned to Minnesota when she was 7. She attended Rushford High School and graduated from Winona Business College. She attended Highland Prairie Lutheran Church as a child. On May 13, 1934, she married Ernest M. Swain at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church; he died Sept. 6, 1990. A member of Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson, she sang in the choir for many years, was active in WELCA and taught vacation Bible school. Her hobbies included rosemaling, hardanger, ceramic painting, needlework and macrame.

Survivors include a son, Gene (Christine) of Caledonia; two daughters, Joan (Robert) Terrill of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Ione (Lee) Loerch of Peterson; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Solveig Byboth of Minneapolis.

She was also preceded in death by a son, a brother and a sister.

The funeral for Gladys Judith Swain was held March 12, 2001 at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Burial was in West Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Peterson. Hoff Funeral Homes-Cook Rushford Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
