The Fillmore Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) reminds livestock producers that the SWCD offers free manure spreader calibrations. Fall is a good time to calibrate spreaders when manure is being applied to fields after harvest. The calibration information, in combination with manure test results, is a valuable tool for determining the application rates of the nutrients in the manure. Manure test kits can be picked up at the SWCD office. There is an analysis fee paid to the lab by the producer. Another free service offered by the SWCD is a mini manure management plan that uses the spreader calibration and manure analysis numbers to determine optimum nutrient application rates. The plan provides a short and easy guide to maximizing the nutrients in the manure. For more information about any of these services, contact the Fillmore SWCD office at 507-765-3878, ext. 3, or email
