W. Dale Rucker

W. Dale Rucker, 71, of Wells, formerly of Chatfield, died May 12, 2001 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester as the result of a cerebral hemorrhage suffered on May 2.

He was born May 9, 1930, in Detroit, and as a child lived in several communities before moving to Wells in 1946. He graduated from Wells High School in 1948, attended the University of Minnesota and served in the Marines during the Korean War. On May 5, 1956, he married Janice Donahue at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Janesville, Minn. He was a rural letter carrier with the Postal Service from 1956 to 1990 and during the 1980s was a printer at the Wells Mirror for several years. He was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church and sang in its choir for more than 50 years, and was a member of the Jaycees, Wells Planning Commission, the American Cancer Society and the Wells Lions Club and American Legion. He was active in Cub Scouts, ESL tutoring and Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed reading, playing golf and tennis, refinishing antique furniture and traveling.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mike (Sue) of Wells, Matt (Janet) of Comfrey, Minn., and Ned (Tracy) of Waverly, Iowa; two daughters, Martha (Steven) Guthmiller of Rochester and Meg (Dave) Brew of Appleton, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; two brothers, Ed (Betty) and Charles (Bess), both of Rochester; and a sister, Delma Bateman of Plainview.

The funeral for W. Dale Rucker was held on May 16, 2001 at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, Minn., with the Rev. Eugene Stenzel officiating. The body was cremated. Interment was in the church cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Wells Color Guard.
