Marjorie L. Wilson, 82, of Preston, a farmer and former teacher, died June 3, 2001 at Preston Good Samaritan Care Center.

Born Feb. 20, 1919, in Hutton, Preston Township, Fillmore County, the daughter of Henry and Leona (Klein) Wilson. She graduated from Preston High School in 1935, and after graduating from Preston Normal School in 1936, taught in rural Fillmore County schools for five years. One of the first women in the United States to volunteer for active duty, she served in the WAVES from Oct. 9, 1942, until January 1946. During her service, she worked for the chief of naval operations in Washington, D.C. After her discharge, she returned to the Preston area and farmed until entering Preston Good Samaritan Center last year. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a sister, Christie Collett of Preston. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

The funeral for Marjorie L. Wilson was June 6 at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston with the Revs. James Rushton and Bernard Daiker co-officiating. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston with military graveside rites by the Preston Servicemen's Club. Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.
