Gilma Thoen Walsh

Gilma Thoen Walsh, 85, of Lanesboro, a longtime librarian and grocery store employee, died June 2, 2001 at the Preston Care Center where she had lived six months.

Gilma Thoen was born July 8, 1915, in rural Lanesboro and graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1933. On Sept. 8, 1958, she married Edward Walsh in McGregor, Minn. He died in 1977. A lifelong Lanesboro resident, she worked at the Lanesboro grocery store for 30 years and was librarian at the Lanesboro Public Library for 31 years. In 19 she helped organize the VFW Auxiliary, and served as its president for 17 years and as secretary for 17 years. Mrs. Walsh was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro, its serving group and WELCA. She collected salt and pepper shakers.

Survivors include a brother, Harold (Helen) Thoen of Lanesboro.

The funeral for Gilma Thoen Walsh was held on June 6, 2001 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church , with the Rev. Kerry Eversole officiating. Burial was in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Lanesboro. Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro was in charge of arrangements.
