Emil Eickhoff

Emil Eickhoff, 95, of Wykoff, died Thursday, June 14, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester where he had been a resident for the past six months.

Emil Fred Eickhoff, a retired farmer, was born on April 5, 1906, in rural Fountain, to William and Sophie (Bicknese) Eickhoff. He attended country school in rural Fountain until the sixth grade and graduated from St. Johns Lutheran School in Wykoff. On August 31, 1927, he married Irene Biel of Wykoff. The couple lived for six years on his family farm and in 1933 they purchased a 160 acre farm in rural Fountain. In 1969 he moved to Wykoff and two years later sold his farm to their son. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and visited all 50 states, Germany, Scandinavia, the Holy Land, Kenya, Japan, the U.S.S.R. and many other countries. Emil was a lifelong active member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wykoff.

Mr. Eickhoff is survived by a sister, Linda Vehrenkamp of rural Fountain; two brothers, Emery of Wykoff and Everett of rural Fountain; two sons, Donald (Lila) Eickoff and Virgil (Marva) Eickoff all of Wykoff; two daughters, Dr. Myrna (Robert) Butler of New York City and Diane (Aaron) Barnhart of Kansas City, MO; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, in 1985; two brothers, Elmer and Edwin; and a sister, Lucille Schultz.

Funeral services for Mr. Eickoff were held Sunday, June 17, 2001, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wykoff, with Rev. Leroy E. Vogel and Rev. Robert Burmeister officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Wykoff was in charge of arrangements.
