Bernice B. Nielsen, 81, of Ostrander, a former farm homemaker, died June 9, 2001at Ostrander Nursing Home where she had been a patient a short time.

Bernice B. Braesch was born Nov. 20, 1919, in Lincoln Township, near Albert City, Iowa to Herman and Lena (Peterson) Braesch. On Aug. 18, 1945, she married Rudolph Nielsen in Storm Lake, Iowa. They farmed in the Cherry Grove area for many years. Her husband died in 1972. Mrs. Nielsen was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ostrander, an honorary member of Anna Circle and an Ostrander Nursing Home volunteer. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley (Darrell) Berg of Spring Valley; three sons, Jerry (Pixie), Larry (Jeani) and Gary (Bev), all of the Cherry Grove area; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Kenneth (Phyllis) Braesch of Marathon, Iowa, and Arvid (Elvira) Braesch of Albert City, Iowa. A granddaughter also preceded her in death.

The funeral was held June 16, 2001 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ostrander, with the Rev. Norman Bauer officiating. Burial was in Bloomfield Cemetery, in Bloomfield Township, Fillmore County. Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy was in charge of arrangements.
