Loyes A. Housker

Loyes A. Housker, 81, a longtime Mabel resident, died June 7, 2001 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa.

Loyes Ramlo was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Mabel to Carl and Clara (Bersie) Ramlo. She graduated from Mabel High School in 1937 and received a teaching degree from Luther College in Decorah. She taught in country schools for three years prior to her marriage to Paul Housker on June 28, 1948, in Mabel. They owned and operated Housker Meats in Mabel from 1952 until their retirement in 1990. Her husband died Jan. 11, 1992. Mrs. Housker was a member of Mabel First Lutheran Church and its WELCA and the Mabel Alumni Association. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and baking.

Survivors include a son, David (Connie) of Hastings, Minn.; a daughter, Mary (John) Klimesh of Mabel; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; and two sisters, Juletta Trygstad of Mabel and Clara Jeanan Anderson of Mankato. A brother and three sisters preceded her in death.

The funeral was held June 9, 2001 at First Lutheran Church in Mabel, with the Rev. Gene Hermeier officiating. Burial was in Mabel Lutheran Cemetery. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
