What a wonderful day, Sunday, the weather was great. I just couldn’t believe what a difference 12 hours could make. Saturday, June 30th was a very hot, humid day - but the next day Sunday, July 1st was nearly 40 degrees different. My family and I went to Winona to the Steamboat Days and it was almost chilly. They have a big parade and it was great, almost 3 hours long and people!! I had never seen that many at a parade. After it was over we all walked back (two blocks) to my daughter Karen’s house for our picnic, as Ed had put a 10 lb. chicken on the grill. Thanks Vickie and was it good. Of course we had potato salad, hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, you name it and we had it. By 5:00 p.m. we were all starved, so eat we did and enjoyed the parade, the food, visiting and the beautiful weather.

During the children’s Christmas play at church, Joseph asked the innkeeper if he and Mary could have a room. “No, we have no room,” said the child playing the innkeeper. Then he forgot his next line, so he quickly added, “But why don’t you come on in and have a drink.”

Sure Thing
Each year brings cut new calenders
In every kind of shape and size
But whatever calendar you choose
It will not change how fast time flies

Hints
~Muffin tins make excellent ice cube trays. The larger cubes last longer. Put them in a punch bowl or take along on picnics.
~Place unripened tomatoes with other fruit, especially pears, to speed up ripening.
~Sweet corn ears are ripe and ready for harvest when the top of the cob is round, not pointed.

A Goat Story
Bill bought a goat;indeed he did-
A highland goat, just for the kids,
This highland goat was feeling fine.
Ate three shirts right off the line.
Bill got a club and broke his back
And tied him to the railroad track.
The Sioux line train was passing by-
This poor old goat was doomed to die.
He gave a shriek, a shriek of pain,
Coughed up those shirts
And flagged the train.

Pretty Peach Jam
8 medium peaches, cut into wedges
1 small unpeeled naval orange, cut into wedges
2 cans (8 oz. each) crushed pineapple, undrained
12 maraschino cherries
3 tbls. maraschino cherry juice
2 pkgs. (1 3/4 oz. each) powdered fruit pectin
10 cups sugar
• In a blender or food processor, cover and process fruits and cherry juice in batches until smooth. Transfer to a large kettle, stir in pectin. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat, stirring constantly. Add sugar, boil for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat. Pour into jars or freezer containers. Cool to room temperature, about 1 hour. Cover and let stand overnight or until set, but not longer than 24 hours. Refrigerate or freeze.
