Operation round up grants $3,400 to local causes

Rushford, MN- The Operation Round Up (ORU) Trust Board met Sept. 10 and selected to grant $3,400 to the following worthy organizations:

•$500, Houston County Care & Share (Caledonia, MN), to assist with its Christmas project where needy children and their families receive Christmas gifts and food gift certificates.

•$500, National Child Safety Council (on behalf of Fillmore County police departments), to provide curriculum to educators and peace officers to train children to be safe and responsible citizens.

•$500, Equal Play for Everyone (Preston, MN), to help purchase equipment for a new park which will meet accessibility guidelines.

•$350, SEMCAC, for energy assistance programs.

$350, Southeastern Minnesota Education & Resource Center (St. Charles), for energy assistance programs.

•$300, Salvation Army of Fillmore County, to help provide emergency services for residents of Fillmore County.

•$300, American Red Cross-Southeast Minnesota Chapter, for disaster assistance.

•$250, Lenora Stone Methodist Church (Canton, MN), to help restore the church's cedar shingles.

•$250, Whalan Village Hall Restoration, to assist with repairing and renovating the Whalan Village Hall.

•$100, Girl Scout Troop #40332 (Spring Valley, MN), to help purchase supplies as part of the group's cemetery cleanup project.

Operation Round Up is funded by donations made by members of Tri-County Electric Cooperative who voluntarily have their electric bill rounded up to the next dollar. About 1,200 members currently participate with donations averaging $6 a year per member. It truly shows that small change can make a difference.
