Monica Marie Westphal, 81, died June 14, 2001 at the home of her daughter in Spring Valley.

Monica Nedved was born May 24, 1920, in Pocohantis, Iowa, and married Dale G. Westphal on Feb. 10, 1940, in Fairmont, Minn. The couple lived in Pocohontis, Grand Meadow and Taopi before settling in LeRoy in 1962. Mrs. Westphal was a homemaker who also worked at the Sweet Shop in LeRoy as a waitress and ran the garbage route in LeRoy with her husband from 1975 until 1981. Mr. Westphal died in 1982. In 1997, she moved to Spring Valley. She enjoyed baby-sitting, birds, dances and old-time music.

Survivors include three sons, Daniel (Billie) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Roger (Reta) and Jeffrey (Angela), both of Rochester; a daughter, Margaret (Doug) Guy of Spring Valley; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Blanche (George) Wilson of Indian Harbor Beach, Fla. She was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, and a brother.

The funeral was held June 18, 2001 at St. Patrick's Catholic church in LeRoy, with the Rev. Russell Seepaniak officiating. Burial was in LeRoy Cemetery. Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy was in charge of arrangements.
