Mr. Albrecht, 69, of Wykoff, a former farm manager, died Thursday (July 12, 2001) in rural Wykoff.

He was born March 8, 1932, in Osmond, Neb., and moved to the Wykoff area with his family when he was 3. He served with the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carriers USS Coral Sea and USS Midway in the Mediterranean Sea from 1950 to 1954. He married Donna Zalky on October 24, 1952, in Wykoff. He was employed as an over-the-road trucker and farm manager until retiring and moving to Wykoff in 1993. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff and the Wykoff American Legion. He enjoyed birds, gardening, fishing and watching sports on television.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sheri (Clair) Ramaker of rural Preston, Pat (Mike) Dee of Mantorville and Pam of Rochester; a son, Gary (Deb) of Fillmore; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; his mother, Mary, of Lake City; two brothers, Bob "Al" (Pat) of Lake City and Gaylord "Casey" (Shirley) of Preston; and three sisters, Karron DeMarais of Red Wing, Dianne (Jerry) Krusmark and Elaine (Bob) Marnell, both of Lake City. He was preceded in death by a daughter; his father and an infant brother.

A memorial service for Gilbert G. Albrecht was held Monday (July 16, 2001) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff, with the Rev. Jerry Crow officiating. Burial with military graveside rites was in the church cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Wykoff was in charge of arrangements.
