Was reading the Reader paper about the old mill in Pickwick, Minn., about 15 miles from Winona. When I drive through Rushford I always remember what my grandpa told me, how he would leave Harmony with a big wagon load of grain and drive to the mill down in Rushford and have the load of grain ground into flour to take back home. With his horses and wagon load he would be gone from seven to ten days. He always had medicine along in case a rattlesnake would bite one of the horses on the way. All I can think of is how precious that flour was when grandma baked bread. Aren’t we lucky to run down to the grocery store and get all the flour we want.

A man went to a lumber yard and said, “I want some two by twice.” The salesman looked puzzled for a moment then, “Oh, you mean two by fours. How long do you want them?” “For a long time,” the man replied. “I’m building a house.”

~ Why is the third hand on the watch called the second hand?
~ If a word is misspelled in the dictionary, how would we ever know?
~ Why do “slow down” and “slow up” mean the same thing?
~ Why do “tug” boats push their barges?
~ Why do we sing “Take me out to the ball game”, when we’re already there?
~ Why is it called “after dark” when it really is “after light”?
~ Why doesn’t glue stick to the inside of the bottle?

Tangy Lime Gelatin Salad
1 3-oz. pkg. lime gelatin
1 cup hot water
1/2 tsp. lemon flavoring
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup cottage cheese
1/2 cup chopped green peppers
1 cup chopped celery
1 tbls. shredded onion
• Dissolve the gelatin in the hot water and lemon flavoring; add the mayonnaise and stir well. Add the cottage cheese, celery, green pepper and onion. Chill until completely set before serving on salad greens.
