How much extra work is involved in using cloth diapers?

Using modern cloth diapers is very quick and convenient. Depending on how many diapers you have, plan on two to three extra loads of laundry per week, although these will not likely be full loads as few people have a supply that large.
For exclusively breastfed babies, all diapers can be washed after a rinse cycle without any need for empting out the messes. Some people even skip the rinse cycle and wash those diapers like they would any other clothing.
Once your baby is on solid food, soiled diapers will need to be emptied out into the toilet. However, with flushable diaper liners and mini-showers that attach to your toilet supply line, the job is quick and easy. It is a little known fact that when using disposable diapers caregivers are supposed to dump solid waste into the toilet to be cleaned out before disposal of the diaper. It is illegal to put human waste in a landfill because of possible contamination of ground water.
