Last weekend, my dad came down from Rochester to our home in Fountain, staying overnight so we could get up early and cut slab wood we both purchased from Root River Hardwoods in Preston. That wood had been sitting in the backyard since November of last year, and it was time to get to work.

After cutting up a couple bundles of wood, my dad offered to stay at our house and watch Olivia and Landon while my wife and I went out for dinner.

Amanda and I immediately agreed upon a trip to Lanesboro for fine dining at Riverside on the Root.

The thing we've always liked about Riverside on the Root is that you get the high class dining experience without the high class price.

Well, it just so happens that we arrived one day after owners Mike and Julie Charlebois completed a remodeling project to enclose the deck area.

We've always enjoyed the great food and hospitality at Riverside on the Root, dating back to the first time a waitress offered us a fleece blanket during a cool, fall evening out on the deck. That's unique and something that brings people back.

Now, with a newly enclosed deck area, locals and tourists will be able to enjoy the fine dining experience until New Year's Eve 2010.

So, I'll have another chance to tear into their famous prime rib. As you look at the picture of my plate full of cow, it may look like it's still mooing. That's perfect! They cooked it to my liking.

Truly, it was nice and relaxing having a night out with my wife. We even indulged in a dessert -- Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse -- always a fork fight to the last bite. Being a gentleman, I let Amanda win!

Celebrating 10 years of success this year, Mike and Julie must be doing something right.
