DECORAH, Iowa - Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum and ArtHaus invite all pre-school-aged children and their parents or caregivers to a "Tradition Expedition" during Barnetimen (Children's Hour) on Tuesday, November 16, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Meet first at ArtHaus at 508 West Water St. and then proceed next door to Vesterheim.

Join Lea Lovelace, ArtHaus co-founder and instructor, on an exploratory journey through Vesterheim's galleries and collections to discover how immigrants from Norway and other countries came to the United States and what they brought with them. A hands-on and engaging activity, such as a craft or mini-theater experience, will also be a part of this session. All participants will have a passport that will be stamped after each visit.

Barnetimen will meet the third Tuesday of the month, October - April, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the ArtHaus Studio, which is located next to Vesterheim Museum. Activities will take place in both the studio and the museum. There is no charge for the Barnetimen program.

For information about Barnetimen, please contact Jennifer Kovarik, Vesterheim Youth Educator, at 563-382-9681 or More information about Lea Lovelace and ArtHaus can be found at

Founded in 1877, Vesterheim includes a main complex of 16 historic buildings in downtown Decorah, and an immigrant farmstead and prairie church just outside the city. The museum cares for over 24,000 artifacts, among which are some of the most outstanding examples of decorative and folk art to be seen in this country. Vesterheim uses the story of Norwegian Americans to explore aspects of identity and culture common to everyone. Come for our holiday festivals, special group tours, classes, or any time.
