Dog shot and killed in Canton

The Fillmore County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting incident that happened at about 9:30pm, Saturday night in Canton Township, approximately three miles northeast of Canton.
According to Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen, several shots were fired outside a home. Jensen said that the family's dog was shot and killed during the incident. He also said that several beer bottles were thrown at the house, causing damage. Sheriff Jensen stated that several members of the family were home at the time of the incident. It is not believed that any the shots were fired at the house and no persons were injured.
Jensen said that it appears that at least two suspects had come to the house earlier and were confronted by the dog. He said they came back later and killed the dog.
The incident remains under investigation. Sheriff Jensen said that an arrest was made Tuesday evening and charges are expected in the next 24-48 hours.
On Friday, November 12, Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen released the name of one suspect in the incident that occurred near Canton on Saturday evening. Eli D. Swartzentruber, age 19, of rural Canton, was scheduled to appear in Fillmore County District Court on the morning of Friday, November 12, on multiple charges, including Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.
