The November Chatfield School Board meeting took place on Monday, November 15th, 2010, at 7:00 P.M. in the high school media center. The majority of the meeting was allotted to administration reports and the 2009-2010-district audit report. Alan Anderson was in attendance at the meeting to make the presentation.

The meeting began with Greg Manahan giving information during district patron time with possible improvements made to CCTV (Chatfield Community Television) within the school. The gym now has metal platforms and there is a permanent enclosure at the baseball field. The district would now like to look into having improvements made to the football field.

Superintendent Ed Harris went over the results from election night and the referendum vote. The final election results were 849 votes for yes and 1,102 votes against the referendum. He also announced the final enrollment numbers and projection for the 2010 and 2011 school year. In June 2010 there were 867 students enrolled and in June 2011 there is a projected 886 students to be enrolled. Harris also gave a brief facilities report. He reported that the first phase of the roofing project has been completed successfully. He also stated that Hammell Equipment would be taking care of snow removal this winter for the elementary school. The district has also received an estimate for the elementary tiling project to deal with drainage issues. Griffin Construction submitted a bid ranging from $12,000 to $14,000 for the project.

Principal Randy Paulsen gave a thank you to all those who helped in the Veteran's Day program. He also requested that the board recognize the position for a Knowledge Bowl advisor. The school is bringing back the Knowledge Bowl program after having it cut last spring. Nineteen students were interested in this program from junior high and 14 from the senior high grades. Congratulations were given to the Service Club for their successful food collection and to those who were at the National FFA Convention. Representatives from the student senate said that the fall carnival was cancelled due to athletic tournaments, but they anticipate planning a winter one. Mr. Ihrke also announced that he would like to create a new mission statement for the elementary school. The district administration also mentioned that they would like to look into the PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) Program.

In the yearly audit report for the school district, the overall financial conditions for the school were "better than expected." All student activity accounts reported positive balances for the year. Cash balances in all funds were positive, which was "a lot better than many districts in our area." Federal and state stability money distribution percentages were also discussed for the coming years.

To close the meeting, the board passed the motions to have a Knowledge Bowl advisor position and to renew the school district's membership to SEMNET JPA. Upcoming important dates for the Chatfield School District are Thanksgiving break from November 24th through November 26th. There will be an early dismissal on December 10th at 1:00 P.M. for curriculum writing. The next school board meeting will be on December 20th. Winter break will take place from December 23rd to December 31st.
