University of Minnesota Extension Forage Meetings

Come and learn more about Corn Silage Research Results and current issues in forages on Monday, December 6, 2010, at the Good Times Restaurant in Caledonia or the Community Center in St. Charles. A morning program will be held in Caledonia, with registration at 9:30 a.m., program from 10:00 - Noon. An afternoon program will be held in St. Charles with registration at 1:00, program from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Results from corn silage research trials, disease management in oats, and discussions on current alfalfa management issues in SE Minnesota and Wisconsin will be discussed. There is no charge to attend. Program topics include:

· University of Minnesota Corn Silage Trial Results from La Crescent and Rock Dell, MN, Yield and Quality

· Use of Fungicides on Corn Silage - Yield and Quality, Results from University of Minnesota and Wisconsin

· Control of Crown Rust Disease in Oats with Fungicides

· Discussion on the Use of Headline Fungicide on Alfalfa, Pest Management Implications and Research trial proposals

· Questions and Discussion on current issues and recommendations - tissue testing to determine sulfur deficiencies in alfalfa, impacts of intensive cutting management in 2010, alfalfa pests, forage research needs

Presenters and facilitators include: Fritz Breitenbach, Integrated Pest Management Specialist, University of Minnesota Extension, Lisa Behnken, Regional Crops Extension Educator, Bill Halfman, Agricultural Extension Agent, Monroe County, University of Wisconsin, Jerry Tesmer, Fillmore/Houston County Extension Educator and Tom van der Linden, Winona County Extension Educator.
