Fountain hosts live nativity

Just as the last meatball was served and the last lutefisk was boiled at the big October supper, the Fountain Lutheran Church, along with sister church Root Prairie Lutheran Church, began organizing their Live Nativity event for the Christmas season. These two churches have provided the community with a live nativity for the last seven years--with only one year cancelled due to bad weather. They are hoping for much better weather this year! Volunteers from both churches gather together for four performances on Saturday, December 11th, at the Fountain Lutheran Church parking lot at 5:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. In addition to the volunteers who provide refreshments after each performance, there are many thank you's to those who help with music, advertising, lighting, costumes, stage set up, live animal owners and, of course, to the many volunteers who portray Joseph, Mary, shepherds, angels, and many others. The planning committee, which rotates between churches each year, recognizes that the wonderful part of this event is the warm hearts of those that give their time each year to make this event such a success. The volunteers start the weekend prior with the set up of the stable scene. The rustic setting was initially built by Kirk Ericson and Robert Nelson as a portable set. With the help from members of each congregation, the heavy set is assembled in one day---stop by and see the stable as it is put together the week prior! When the stable is assembled, the music ready and wired in, and the costumes are complete with finishing touches, the entire cast of all ages will be waiting for you to join in this joyful re-enactment. The short play you will see tells of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem with Mary riding in on a donkey led by Joseph. Along the way, they meet a cast of characters including an innkeeper, shepherds, and a heavenly host of angels. Individuals from both congregations perform in this annual Christmas tradition that is shared with Fountain and the surrounding communities and invite all readers to come and see this reminder of the special gift we received many years ago. So, please consider this your official invitation to be a part of a meaningful evening and plan to attend one of the performances on December 11th. Each performances is approximately 20 minutes long so don't forget to dress in your warm Minnesota gear.
