According to the Real Diaper Association (www.realdiaperassociation.org), it will cost an average of $1600 to diaper a child from birth to age two using disposable diapers.
In comparison, the cost to use pre-fold diapers and covers from birth to potty training is about $300. For $600 to $700, parents can choose a very easy, fitted cloth diapering system with covers. An added benefit to high-quality cloth diapers and covers is they can used for more than one child, multiplying the savings!
For a family using cloth on four children the savings will total around $5,800 over buying disposables. Washing cloth diapers will use water and that cost will vary depending on where you live and how often you wash them. Line drying adds no extra cost, but using a dryer will. For many families using cloth diapers increases laundry by three loads per week.
If you are curious about cloth, there's no better time to see what the options are and to start saving money!
