Our nice weather made me think about years ago when spring came. I drove over to Cresco one day last week and what a nice smooth road since they fixed it last fall. Years ago when I was a kid and when spring came, you did not get to Cresco ‘til the weather was so hot it would dry up the terrible wet spots and holes in the road. One farmer was kept busy just pulling cars out all day long. It wasn’t just 139, but all the roads in the country. We’ve got two months of winter left and could get snow yet, but it could never get as bad as years ago on our roads

A minister went to see a woman whose husband had just passed away. “Was your husband covered by insurance?” the minister inquired. “Oh, no,” the widow replied, “Just his nightshirt.”

Right?
Birds build their nests, rear their young, and make their annual flights to other climates, but so far as is known, no bird ever tried to build more nests than its neighbor, and no fox ever fretted because he has only one hole in the earth in which to hide, and no squirrel ever died of anxiety lest he should not lay up enough nuts for two winters instead of one, and no dog ever lost sleep over the fact that he did not have enough bones buried in the ground for his declining years. So many people put the emphasis upon the wrong thing - like keeping up with the Jones.

Hints
•If you rub the skin of a chicken with mayonnaise before baking, the skin will get crisp and brown.
•You can blend a sprinkling of instant coffee granules into your brown gravy, it enhances the flavor and color. For beef or pork gravy add a dash of chili powder.

Water Facts
1. It takes 1,500 gallons of water to process one barrel of beer.
2. The surface of the earth is 80% water and 97% of this amount is ocean and/or salt water.
3. Of the balance 2% is frozen leaving just 1% or less as fresh water to sustain many needs.
