Valentine Greeting
When I visited my friend,
on St. Valentine’s Day,
I knocked on her door
in my usual way.
But there I faced-
with much disbelief-
a faded outdated
Christmas wreath!
How did you like the snow? I liked it, as it’s so clean and white and it let us know it is still winter. It doesn’t seem possible all of a sudden it is Valentine’s already, so winter has gone by pretty fast. I don’t think Valentine’s Day is quite so attractive now days, as when I was a kid in country school. Mother would buy us pretty valentines for a penny a piece, then we would write the kid’s name on them and take them to school, drop them in a decorated shoe box and have a little party. Some gave valentines with a sucker on them and how happy we all were. Those were the good old days.

Lars: Ve had a crasy think happen at our house yesterday, my vife accidentally closed da lid on da deep freeze - and da cat vas in it.
Ole: For gammelast sakes! Vat did you do?
Lars: Vell, ve took da cat out - it had been dere for about 6 hours, and it was stiff as a board.
Ole: So, what did you do den?
Lars: I took a few drops of gasoline and put on his tongue, yee Viss! Did that cat ever come to life, He yumped about 6 feet in da air and ran around da room for about ten minutes. Den he stopped.
Ole: Was he dead?
Lars: No, yust run out of gas.

Some people are like buttons - always popping off.

Be like a postage stamp - stick to one thing till you get there.
. . . . .
A tongue doesn’t weigh much, but many people have trouble holding one.

Hint
Mix a tablespoon of cream (or milk) and a tablespoon of salad oil and you will soothe the skin that is burned, roughened and dried from working outside.

•When, we raised Rhode Island Reds, and Plymouth Rocks and they were chickens, not cars.
•When, fried chicken was for Sunday company only.
•When, mother gave you two setting hens for your very own.
•When, women always carried a carpet bag with a small coin purse and hankie in it.
•When, all housekeepers used dark green shades on their windows.

Popcorn Nougat Bars
6 oz. pkg. butterscotch pieces
1/3 cup peanut butter
2 tbls. margarine
3 cups mini marshmallows
1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 qts. popped corn
1 cup granola
6 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
Melt butterscotch pieces, peanut butter, margarine, marshmallows & salt in microwave or on top of double boiler. Stir constantly until melted and smooth. Combine with popped corn & granola in buttered 9x13 pan. Toss until well mixed, press smooth in pan. Melt chocolate chips over hot - not boiling water and spread over nougat mixture. Cool until firm.
