The Gophers dug themselves an early hole. St. Charles began the game with a 9-0 run. An 8-2 Chatfield run shortly thereafter tightened the score considerably, but even so, the Saints were in control the entire first half. Their 2-3 zone forced Chatfield to be patient. It forced them to make outside shots. Scoring was at a premium. It took a banked three-pointer just before the first half buzzer by Chatfield's Jake Peterson to get the Gopher squad to within 1 at 26-25.
Out of the second half gate, Chatfield finally took its first lead on an Erik Hilgren three-pointer. He was hot for a while, hitting five from behind the arc for the game. For a while, the game went back and forth. But with four minutes and change to go, St. Charles' Joseph Montgomery hit a three-pointer of his own. It pushed the Saint lead to five points at 47-42. Jake Peterson responded with a two-pointer, cutting the lead to three again. Down the stretch, Will Swiggum of St. Charles made 2 of 4 free throws. His makes, in conjunction with Chatfield's offensive misses, pushed the Saint lead to 5 again. The Gophers could never recover. When the clock read 00:00, St. Charles had prevailed 50-46.
Hilgren led the way for the home team. He notched 15 points (all from behind the arc). Peterson played second fiddle. He netted 12 points while dealing out 5 assists. Mitch Narveson and Jesse Julian combined for 15 off the bench. Swiggum had 14 for the visitors. Chatfield was whistled for 20 fouls to St. Charles' 9. They shot 17 free throws (making 8) to Chatfield's 4 (making 1). Chatfield made 9 three-pointers to St. Charles' 4, but the Saints were 15-23 from two-point range. Chatfield was 9 of 23.
The boy's record stands at 1-4 (0-4 in conference).
