The Burro guys spent part of their break competing in the four-team St. Charles Holiday Tournament. Against the host Saints, Lanesboro fell behind early 7-0 and 11-1 on the way to trailing 24-15 at the half. In the second stanza, the Burros chipped the Saint lead to 7 once. A Cory Strom three dropped it to 6 at the 6:47 mark. But then St. Chuck notched 17 unanswered points in the next 4:47. They ultimately prevailed 59-41. St. Charles' 2-3-zone stymied the Burros. They made only 5 of 23 long-range attempts. The Saints also made 16 free throws to Lanesboro's 6 while winning the battle of the boards 30-22. Strom was the only Lanesboro player in double figures. He had 10. Interior players Will Swiggum and Aaron Leistikow combined for 31 points and 16 rebounds for the home team.
A night later versus Dover-Eyota, the Burros jumped out early and never looked back, prevailing 61-49. Junior Braden Hanson led the way. He made 9 of 19 field goals, including 3 of 7 from behind the arc and 5 of 5 from the line, enroute to a 26-point, 12-rebound, 6-steal, 4-assist performance. Instrumental in the win, the Burros flipped free throw and rebounding disparities, the ones that helped doom them against St. Charles, in their favor. They were 15 of 18 from the line, versus D-E's 7 of 16, whilst holding a 30-20 rebounding edge even though the Eagles boasted 6'9" Nate Vang.
