Chatfield and Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson battled on the mats in a meet expected to be very spirited. Both teams definitely competed except, as a very pleased Chatfield coach Joel Viss best surmised, "Things sort of went our way." Hank Friederichs (103), Alex Haffner (112), and Harvey Friederichs got the Gophers started with decision (6-1), pin, and decision (8-2). LA-RP's Justin Doerr stemmed the tide at 125 with a 6-1 decision. But then Jacob Pierce (130) scored a pin, giving Chatfield an 18-3 lead. Jordan Theede got a 12-4 majority victory for the Screamin' Eagles at 135. Chatfield then wrapped up the meet. Zach Curry (140) won 9-7, Jeremy Benike (145) got an unexpected pin (a feat that got him voted most outstanding wrestler by his peers), Cody Bly (152) snatched an 11-6 decision, and Aaron Pagel (160) an 8-4 decision. At 33-7, the meet was wrapped up. The two squads split the final four matches, LA-RP's Greg Johnson (171) and Alex Hoff (215) got pins. Chatfield's Juan Gomez, ranked 6th in state, got a 5-2 decision, and Cody Wrubel (285) a pin. The final tally was Gophers 42, LARP 19.
