Please raise your hand if you could eat breakfast any time of the day or night!
While I do enjoy an average of nine meals per day -- oh, the gluttony -- breakfast has to be my favorite.
The other day, I had the good fortune of visiting Rushford Dental for a little remodeling job inside my mouth. Consuming so much food for this weekly column requires a significant amount of chopper maintenance.
After a pleasant visit with no novocaine -- because Dr. Marcoux is that good -- I met up with a good friend for lunch at Norsland Lefse.
Whether your Norwegian or a wanna-be Norwegian, you have to make a trip to Norsland Lefse.
I've been there so many times and I can't help but to always order my favorite item on the menu.
The Breakfast Lefse Wrap ranks among my favorite breakfast foods. As a matter of fact, the next time I stop by Norsland Lefse, I should get one for the road; something to nibble on as a midnight snack.
As this little piece of Norway arrived at our table, I saw the Norwegian flag and I believe I heard a little man shouting "Uffda!" somewhere in the back room.
While I have seen the Breakfast Lefse Wrap time and time again, it will never cease to amaze me at the sheer size. Really, this could be deemed dinner for two, but then I'd have to share.
While my Norwegian ancestry certainly weighs in on my diet, Lutefisk has never appealed to me in the same way as lefse. Oh, that brown sugar and butter spread all over some warm and friendly lefse makes me feel like I'm indulging in a pile of potato candy.
If you're interested in learning more about Norsland Lefse, truly a tourism attraction serving a Norwegian audience throughout all of America, visit www.norslandlefse.com. At this website, you can actually order Norwegian goods and share your Ole and Lena moments with other wanna-be Norwegians.
I will leave you with a good Norwegian joke to pass along to others:
One day Lena confided to her friend Hilda that she had finally cured her nervous husband, Ole, of his habit of biting his nails. "Good gracious," said Hilda, "How did yew ever dew that?" "It vas really simple," was Lena's reply. "I yust hid his false teeth."
I feel fortunate to live in an area where we have absolutely no corporate-owned restaurants. Every restaurant in our area is family owned and operated. Every dining establishment in the area provides something unique from the ambiance to the tasty bites that keep us coming back for more. We have a great selection of restaurants right here in our own backyard, and I plan on sharing my dining experiences from one town to the next.
